The 351C has more power--PERIOD. Both of these motors are SMALL Blocks but the 351C uses staggered intake/exhaust valves like the Big Blocks have. This allows for bigger valves and more power. the valves on the 351W are inline which really limits their potential. I am Sure you have heard of the infamous BOSS 302 (WHO Hasn't) This motor effectively used the main engine setup of the 289/302/351W engine family but it used the heads from the 351C/M 400 Family. and Keijo Ford stopped making th e351C in America only because of Emissions laws. the 351C stayed in full production in Australia LONG after that. Also the Aussie heads are extremely popular they ahve the small "Quench" chamber of the 4V heads and port sizing of the 2V heads.

They had the same horsepower, despite the windsor which is nothing but a beefed up 320 with tiny exhaust and intake valves. The Cleveland had big 2.18 intake valves. The Cleveland is capable of more horsepower and torque, a much better engine.

The windsor is a small block , the cleveland is NOT a big block , its a "335" series which is in between the two.
A 2v cleveland and a 2v windsor are close , but the 4v cleveland has larger ports and a lot more power.
The cleveland is a great motor with lots of power , but ford dropped there performance line in the early 70's , Henry II had already won every race he wanted and congress pressured him into saving fuel because of the economy at the time.

first off they are both smallblocks. in 71 the 351c had maybe 10 more hp. people think the cleveland is capable of making more power and torque but they are wrong. the aftermarket supports the 351w alot better than the 351c and you can get heads that outflow the 351c head off the shelf. the 4v head is too big for a good street head. you lose alot of velocity in those huge ports and you really need a high rpm to make use of them.

for my money i would build a 460 to replace a 351. if i HAD to choose a 351 it would be the windsor.

The 351 Cleveland had more HP than a 351 Windsor? The 351 Cleveland is a big block and the 351 Windsor is a small block. The 351 Windsor is more dependable. The 351 Cleveland had a lot of oil related problems. For example you had to modify the heads to get proper oiling. That's why Ford don't make them anymore. You can beef up a 351 Windsor with out a lot of expense. It's harder to find parts for the 351 Cleveland. Also the 351 Cleveland is heavier. The 351 Cleveland didn't really impress anybody with their performance.

Most horsepower and torque obtainable- Cleveland, it's a big block and the windsor was a small block.

Your hp on either of these engines depends upon their individual build up. The Windsor is a small-block and the Cleveland is a Big-Block, but they both have the same displacement. In most any situation the big-block may be 'built-up' to achieve greater output of hp. But for reality's sake the small-block can be built to perform every bit as good and has the benefit of being a little lighter for weight.

About equal in stock trim, but Cleavland lent itself to more obtainable H.P. with right mods.
