The problem is that "dead" people can kill others. Kill them and protect society.

No. Because if you do that, then in order to not be a hypocrate, you must kill everyone who you believe to have changed their character and virtue. It also means you must die as well, for there will be someone who believes your character and virues and principles are dead to them. And it doesn't matter if you feel your the same person who hasn't changed. What matters is what the other person thinks or you. Just like when you kill the person your talking about, you feel that your opinion of him/her is more important than their own opinion of themself.

Clearly this would be stupid.

No. There is always a chance that someone will come to know the Lord and what He did for us. Now as far as capital punishment goes, YES. The Commandment thats says "thou shalt not kill" if you go to the origional lanugage should read "thou shalt do no MURDER"

The new testament says that it is the government's job to carry the sword. It is not ours as Christians place, but the government that must carry the sword to restrain evil. If it will not, evil will abound and multiply. If a killer is allowed to go free because his life is too "valuable", then how many others (who have good to offer) will die in his stead?

Are you talking about defamation? It depends on the person we're talking about. Like, going about defaming MLK's legacy would make you look like an idiot.
