When the Bible speaks of "honoring" parents, it refers to the need for grown children, who had already inherited the families possessions, to care for their parents in their old age. Normally a son was given his part of the inheritance when he married and had his first child. That way he becomes responsible for his own family, and no longer was uspport by his parents. However one son, usually the oldest, was given a double portion, and required to use the extra to care for his parents in their old age. Failure to do that was what got people stoned in the Old Testament. They were not stoning 3 year olds for being sassy, but rather bringing charges against adult child who were committing "elder abuse" against their aged parents. Jesus addresses the issue in his Sermon on the Mountain, quoting the "honor your father and mother", and then pointing out how people of his day were getting around that commandment. They would take what was suppose to be the parent's part of their inheritance, and were declaring it "korba", meaning dedicated to God. That meant that the child could continue to use the property, flocks, etc., but that a portion of the profits when to the priest. That portion was smaller then what should have gone to the parents. But by giving it to "God", they avoided caring for their parents and pocketed the left over. Jesus stated that this is wrong. Today, whether a parent is Christian or not, a person still has a responsiblilty to do what they can to aid their parent in their old age. Just as they are expected to help anyone in need. Jesus did talking about the plitting of families. But in context, he is not approving or saying that Christians should do that. He was stating that his message was so radical that it would have the unintended consequence of causing families to split over it. A very different thing from someone giving a command to not show respect for family memebers.

I only pray that you get some of your "facts" straight before you start preaching them. There is alot of misconceptions in what you are saying here. Please read the Word of God, and do some research into what you are trying to say. Yes God did create everyone, but you are confused badly, and in need of teaching. And yes I believe in the Lord with all my heart so I am not bashing you, only trying to help.

Please sign up in a Bible Study...It helped me lots...Ask the Lord to show you His Truth and His Truth through His Word. You see sister, I was raised in an Orthodox religion...with man made rules and traditions...many beliefs not according to the Word of God...I started asking the Lord to show me His Truth...and to send me Divine connections to help me grow in my spiritual life. He has done more than I ever asked. Believe me and here where I live, is a small town and not many Christians...But our Lord provided. He slowly took the blindfolds off my eyes...It is amazing and it's only from God. Many times when I think of what He's done opening my spiritual eyes & ears, I am in Awe still...He is so Good and Loves us so much words can't express how much.
Matt 7:7
Ask, Seek, Knock
7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

God Bless you sister!
