Not obliged, no. But I do ensure I get gifts for all of my nieces and nephews. Everyone else - usually depends. But we have made the holidays all about gifts, and I just don't believe in wasting money for that reason - but for the kids...I splurge a bit.

No not obligated, but I do give a treat deal of people gifts. I buy all year along (some things I keep for myself and other I save for christmas) and I make a few things a long the way. But the time Christmas comes I usually have enough gifts to pass along to my family, friends, and co-workers without it being any problem or hurting the wallet. I was not always like this and at christmas I felt stressed and like I had to spend money that I did not have. Now I give more from the heart because I don't have the stress.

Yes I have often felt obligated to buy gifts for extended family/in-laws. This year I've been ill and have had surgery so I have not bought a single gift for anyone. I will give my grandkids money and everyone else will have to settle for a smile! Gift giving can get out of hand and that's not what CHRISTmas is all about!

It is not your grandchildren's fault. If they were raised by someone who didn't teach them to say thank you, didn't teach them the non-material value of a grandparent, etc, it is not their fault. Kids only know to make phone calls to thank people if their parents tell them to. Kids only know how to show appreciation if someone teaches them how. You don't have to buy anything for your son, but you should still buy your grandkids a gift. Gift idea: A kids book about showing appreciation and saying thank you. Edit: As for people who are saying send a gift card... don't. How do you know the money will be spent on the kids? If you do choose a gift card, make it for gymboree, children's place, or some other place that only sells kids clothes. Even places like toys'r'us sells things for adults, like video games rated M. Many other children's clothing stores are partnered with adult clothing stores and the gift cards are interchangable between stores.

Since I don't really have a lot of money, so I would say no. But the day when I start making a lot of doh, then I would have to wait and see if I feel obligated to buy gifts.

No. I buy gifts out of love.
Except for the office. Then i buy them just because everyone else has given me something. But usually I just make treats so it's no big deal.

NOPE...Christmas is everyday..
If your friends and relatives are
in "need" of presents, I would just
simply close my door on them..
Christmas is not only a time to
exchange presents but to enjoy..people..
persons..
So, don't feel obligated to give gifts,
instead, offer them food, drinks, drugs, or
whatever you have on hand! LOL
