God is Spirit and we must go to Him in the 'Spirit' for Him to Know us. Doing 'good' works is seen as glorifying the flesh(own-self) when w/o God.

well thats a GOOD question about GOD.

good=a way to describe something as pleasant, joyful, righteous, etc.

God=all powerful entity
