You are right the Quran says:
"There is no compulsion in religion." (2:256)
But you the Quran doesn't outline any punishment for apostatcy or blasphamy, watch the following video to clear your misunderstanding:

You can not use the word 'little' and 'Hypocrisy' in the same breath when refering to religion.
Of course you refer to Saudi Arabia, when you coin the phrase - kill the apostates... which is the most extreme society - regarding freedoms, on earth.
They are worried that if the population start thinking, then they will see the holes in the only effective system of control that the princes have over the country. Religion and politics are inseparable within Islam, and in a very rocky Monarchy like Saudi Arabia, nobody would suffer the fools if they did not have some form of extra leverage over the population.
On the whole however, the majority of Islam is much more tolerant than Christianity, Judaism and some parts of Hinduism. Hell the Buddhist have even got a right wing movement now. The problem is when Islam implodes on itself, it goes back to year zero, and because it is linked to the Political system, takes the country with it, so the small sects of extremists have a far greater voice and identity than their physical numbers.

Submission: The Only Religion
[3:19] The only religion approved by GOD is "Submission." Ironically, those who have received the scripture are the ones who dispute this fact, despite the knowledge they have received, due to jealousy. For such rejectors of GOD's revelations, GOD is most strict in reckoning.
[3:20] If they argue with you, then say, "I have simply submitted myself to GOD; I and those who follow me." You shall proclaim to those who received the scripture, as well as those who did not, "Would you submit?" If they submit, then they have been guided, but if they turn away, your sole mission is to deliver this message. GOD is Seer of all people.
[3:21] Those who have rejected GOD's revelations, and killed the prophets unjustly, and killed those who advocated justice among the people, promise them a painful retribution.
[3:22] Their works have been nullified, both in this life and in the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers.

Its certainly a contemptible religion. A barbaric disgusting faith invented to bring peace to savage tribal arabs and the limited amount of peace it brought ended as soon as Mohammed died.
I wish all muslims were instructed by their imams to become suicide bombers but to do it on their own and not take decent people with them.

[2:191] And fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but do not transgress. Surely, Allah loves not the transgressors
[8:62] And if they incline towards peace, incline thou also towards it, and put thy trust in Allah. Surely, it is He Who is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
You will never understand the true meaning of the Quran. The Quran was revealed in stages you must understand A wise man thinks then speaks a fool speaks then thinks.
[3:8] He it is who has sent down to thee the Book; in it there are verses that are firm and decisive in meaning - they are the basis of the Book - and there are others that are susceptible of different interpretations. But those in whose hearts is perversity pursue such thereof as are susceptible of different interpretations, seeking to cause discord and seeking wrong interpretations of it. And none knows its right interpretation except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge; they say, 'We believe in it; the whole is from our Lord.' - And none take heed except those gifted with understanding -
