Because the Australian Government doesn't have the balls to stand up and invoke the rights of all prisoners granted under the Geneva Convention. Before anyone starts on about the Geneva Convention only covering those prisoners considered to be Prisoners of War....how this differs from David Hicks' situation is beyond me. Considering his arrest followed the announcement of the "WAR ON TERROR", I can't believe that these rights have not been invoked by either his lawyers or the Prime Minister of Australia....SHAME JOHNNY HOWARD, SHAME!

David Hicks has NOT been Tortured !!!! Never has been and never will !!! No Detainee held at Guantanamo Bay Cuba has been tortured.
Where did you get your information that Hicks was being tortured ?? Did he tell you that he was ?? Or are you believing all the leftist propaganda ?? Trust me He hasn't been tortured.
For Witch1: It is quite simple how this differs. A Prisoner of War (POW) is a soldier fighting for their Country that has been captured. Tell Me what country is the Taliban ?? Afghanistan ?? So how is it that the Taliban is made up of individuals from different Nationalities ??
A Soldier is a Noble profession. To fight and die for one's Nation ideas and way of life is as Noble a profession as there is. But as a Soldier you do not engage non-military worthy targets. You do not leave a bomb to strike fear into the local population. You do not hijack a civilian aircraft and fly that aircraft into a civilian building full of civilians!!! Those are acts of terrorists !!! Terrorists do not deserve the protection that is afforded to a Soldier who happens to be a POW !!!!

David Hicks hasn't been tortured. He was interorgated because of the information that he had about AL-Quieda, and because he was a mercenary fighting with the taliban in Afghanistan. I know this for fact, that he wasn't tortured, and was pretty much coddled.

I agree with previous answerer. He has not been tortured.Questioned regarding his allegiances So be it!He is being held under American Militiary Law as a traitor and why should he recieve any special treatment.I am Australian and I abhor his actions in fighting for terrorists just to line his own pockets. He knew the risks he was going to take by being traitorous.

finally that is an argument of creating your man or woman difficulty so that you had to save them locked up. lots of them were not extremely determined enemies of the U. S. until eventually they grew to change into detained there. In different words the U. S. made them the monsters they claimed to be, for that reason justifying their detention, truly. that is already shown with the help of the particular incontrovertible truth that those released ended up transforming into a member of Al-Qaeda and different insurgencies, although that they'd insist they were aligned with all of them alongside, the truth replaced into that lots of them were confident after their detention that scuffling with the U. S. replaced into the basically thanks to end them.

Such people could be your nextdoor neighbour, how would you feel about that if they were allowed to go about everyday normal activities until...... BOOM ! ?
What would be your next question then?
