All rote praying is meaningless and illogical, whether in christianity, islam, buddhism, etc, - it is for small, weak, dependent minds

I used to think so, however later in life I hit some areas where it was really hard and draining to try and "express" my heart to God, and I felt such dissappointment over un answered prayer. Then I tried some "rote" praying of the Lord's prayer and some other prayers written down. For me it has helped and I don't feel it's meaningless.

Jesus used this type of prayer so it must be good. Read the account of the Agony in the Garden carefully and you will discover that he used this prayer. He was also a contemplative and that's also repetitive prayer. There are also repetitive prayers in the book of Psalms.

Part of the issue here is _why_ God requires prayer. One of the best quotes on this was by C.S. Lewis who said "I don't pray to change God. I pray to change me."
Once a friend of mine claimed that part of the reason why God charged us (humans) with the task of raising children was so we could learn what it means to be a parrent like He is our parrent.
With this comparison in mind, there can be a context of why God requires certain things. He does for the same reason that earthly parrents require certain behaviors of their children.

Well, God wants to hear from you, not a prayer that has been written down and repeated several times. If it is required, then it is meaningless. God knows everyones heart.

Actions speak louder than words, Muslims bow and humble themselves infront of God, rather than make a wish list of you want and present it to God as most others pray.
Standing shoulder to shoulder with another Muslim during prayer and humbling before God increases unity amongst the Muslims also.

It depends. The repeating of a phrase can put the mind into a sort of semi-meditation state, which can lead to more of a mystical experience.

it is not the best way, but it still has some advantages.... you are still keeping words of prayer in your mind...maybe not now..but someday they will be useful to you and have meaning then....in times of trouble, they may be the only words of prayer you know..it is better to have this than nothing...
