because if they answer "YES, I'm a virgin!" then they are viewed as frigid, uptight, inexperienced rah rah all those things which these days will make you appear as a loser. There is such a negative connotation which goes with the word 'virgin' today, I think it's sad for young girls.
On the otherhand, if she answers "NO, I'm not a virgin", then inevitabely questions such as "how many times have you had sex? and with who?" will be asked and she may be branded as a slut or as easy.
Given the above explanantions, you can see why she might be just a little P.O'd when you ask her about her virginity....especially when it comes from a guy...hmmm

Virginity is an issue for most people because being asked about it is a no-win situation for them. First of all, that is an invasion of the other person's privacy. Secondly, some people view being asked as an attack on their moral values or standards(being considered "used goods" and/or labeled as sinful). Thirdly, being a virgin is, for some other people, feeling like "rejected goods", and asking them may be an attack on their self-esteem. The bottom line is that it is inappropriate to ask a person's sexual history in most cases.

It is a very private and personal issue for a girl. It is not something to be taken lightly, or asked of a girl without expecting an impassioned response. We take the subject of our virginity (and the loss thereof) extremely seriously. Those few girls who do not, usually have little respect for themselves. Though that is not always true.

You don't know a thing about respecting other people's privacy. Would your mother like to be asked how many times she has sex with your dad or was she a virgin when she married your dad?

It's very important to them. It is a sign of purity and innocence. If they are very conservaive, virginity is a big thing, and it takes a lot of understanding.
