Nowadays, the autoclave is rarely used in hospitals, as most have gone to a disposable approach.
Aside from some of the pinchy devices (forceps, clamps, etc) little or nothing is sterilized in an autoclave.
Some hospitals no longer even have autoclaves, at least in the US. Sterilization is performed off site, and the devices that can be economically sterilized are simply shipped off like clothes for cleaning and return to the hospital..
Its weird, but its what's developed over the last two decades... I'd know, my mother, my aunts, and my grandmother were all nurses, and my mother and aunts lived through the transition...

Just about everything needed for a surgical procedure can be sterilized in an autoclave: instruments, camera lenses, metal implants, saws, drills, drill bits, batteries. We have 6 autoclaves inbetween all of our operating rooms and use them everyday to sterilize equipment.
