My German Shepherd lived to be 14, but she had arthritis very badly and was beginning to lose her hair. She was still extremely playful and strong willed, though. She would always win races against my other dogs (her grandson and an English Mastiff), and would always beat them to the tennis ball when we were playing fetch. She wasn't aware that she was in pain until we stopped playing, at which point she would begin limping and have to take a rest.

Needless to say, we had to put her down before we moved to Ohio. She probably wouldn't have made the trip...

But there's no doubt in my mind that she would have lived at least another year or so. She was incredibly strong willed, as I said.

German Shepherds tend to live until 13 yrs of age.
That said with the correct diet and exercise I am sure they could live longer.

I know this has not answered your question but it's the best I can do!
I love german shepherds - Great dogs!
