If he's been with you for four years, then I'm sure he's committed to you. He's probably just waiting for the right time to ask you. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost six years, but we're not engaged yet because of a few reasons: we were both in college for the first four years of our relationship, we then moved back home with our parents for a year, and he is currently paying off student loans. We don't want to rush into marriage if we aren't financially stable. Besides, if you're sure you've got the right person by your side, waiting another year or two or three won't kill you. I'm definitely looking forward to marrying my boyfriend, but I'd rather wait another year when we can enter a marriage debt-free, you know? I'm sure your boyfriend is waiting for the best time to ask. (If you're really antsy though, why not drop some hints?)

Instead of waiting for him to "pop" the question (do women still do that??), why don't you discuss marriage with him and see how he feels about it? If you really want to be married, and he doesn't, well, it might be time to move on without him, because 4 years is a big chunk of time, and if he doesn't want things to change, you've got yourself what's called a (politically incorrect) Mexican stand-off.

Start communicating with him about what you want, where the relationship is going. If you can't do this after 4 years, you guys are pretty much sunk anyway.

Its entirely possible maybe you should catch a time to give him a clue your wanting that. Like in the mall while walking arm in arm tell him you want to look at some jewelry and lead him in then make your way over to the ring section. Some guys are slow and we need clues and hints along the way.

I poped the question to my now fiance and it was only a year and a half, although we went to high school together. You can never tell, just drop subtle hints or talk about marrying him, to him of course.

if he is ready. dont rush into it too quickly. make sure he has a good job and enough money to support you. if he is ready im sure he will. i have been dating my boyfriend for 6 years and im only 21. we want to get married now but financially we arent ready. i know as girls we want the guy to hurry and ask the question. i have been bugging my b/f. but wait till he is ready too.

why rush in to anything is not like your not together if he doesn't propose you and you guys been together for so long it sounds like things are still sweet :)) you should probably sneak a question about marriage and see what he thinks :PP

I think you should go with the flow and enjoy what you have ;)

no, he is happy with the non-committal relationship. If marriage is what you want tell him to sh.i.t or get off the pot...

4 years is quite a long time...
