When I was 10 yrs old I noticed a pea sized bump behind my right ear...it's hard like bone. I am now 20 yrs old and it is still there. I forgot about it until a few months ago because it has been causing me pain. It has not grown at all. I am worried that it can be a tumor. I know it is not a lymph node. Since I have no insurance right now I don't know what to do. What do you all think?

My brother has had this same thing for years and years. It's a cyst. He actually has one behind each ear between his earlobe and neck. Sometimes they swell, like a pimple. He pops it with a pin but I don't really recommend that. However for him it releases the "build up" and the swelling goes down and it goes back to normal. He figures that they would just drain it anyway if he had it looked at so he just does it for himself. You can always have it looked at for peace of mind. I hope this helps. :)

Because it is bothering you, you need to see a doctor. My ex-husband had the same thing and was diagnosed with a cyst. He had to have it removed and the doctor did it right in the office, using a local anesthetic. He never felt a thing, just a little tugging at times. Please do not take this lightly. It could be something serious, or it could be nothing - only your doctor will know for sure. Best of luck to you! Merry Christmas and have a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year!

It could just be a cyst or cartilidge. If it were a tumor, it would probably have grown, as cancer cells tend to multiply -- usually pretty rapidly. Seeing a doctor for it will probably run you less than $75.
