This is a difficult question to answer because everyone's face is different. I know this sounds like a "non-helpful" solution, but the best thing to do is to go to a store like Target and try different products that are being advertised to work on whatever skin type you have (ex: oily, combination, dry).
I had (and still have) combination skin with some acne. In high school and college, the products that worked best on my face were Clean & Clear and Neutrogena. You can certainly start with one or both of those product lines and see if it yields good results for you. For best results, use a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer twice a day, no matter what skin type you have.
The only other recommendation I will give is to change your skin care products on occasion. Like your hair, your skin will become "immune" to the improving effects of the product you are using and eventually return to its original condition. Again, you can easily avoid this by using different products from time to time.

A really effective product is isopropyl alcohol, it dries up skin and may make it oily because it strips the natural oils off but it is great for pimples. Only use it on the bad areas, the best way to keep your face clean is to avoid touching it daily. The hands are very dirty body parts so keep em away. Wash your face if it feels too oily or after you eat. Especially after you handle money. Keep your hands clean and use a face cleanser in the shower instead of soap.

take advise of some grand-parents at home, who may suggest some simple tricks. But dont trust various modern brands available in the market, which may spoil its smoothness.
