A man who owned a vineyard had 2 sons. He asked both of them to work in the vineyard.

The first son said "No" but later on went to work there.

The second one said "Yes Father I will work in the vineyard happily!" But never did.

Which one did the Father's will?

What does this story mean to you??

Blessings
David

I can't imagine a son doing either one of these lol!

The Biblical answer is the first son. I agree, for who am I to argue with the Word of God?

To me this speaks of the response by the people to John the Baptists message of repentance. For some would give John lip service (the religious leaders of the day), others would receive his words (harlots and publicans).
By rejecting the authority of John you are rejecting the authority of the Father, and rejecting the authority of the Son.
It's hard to turn in repentance, and admit when you are wrong. It is much easier to believe the lie and think that your okay without repentance.
For some respond to the call of the Father and say "No way! I am a sinner and am therefore no good to God." Others respond and say "Yes I am great." But later reject the call to repentance placed on there lives by the Holy Spirit.
It is easy for the sick to seek out a doctor. But what do you do when you don't think you are in need of medical attention? This was the problem in Jesus's day, and ours for that matter.
So how will you respond? Will you say No initially and then later come to your senses? Or will you continue to live the lie and go through the motions saying Yes, Yes, but living a life of rebellion?

Great question. I'm sure you had no trouble responding to this question when it was laid on your heart. Wonderful job.

God Bless

The first one did his father's will because he did what was asked or expected (even though it was not his own will to do so). He did what he knew was the right thing for him to do. Though son number two did not resist in words, he failed to honor his word to work and he rejected his father's desire for him to do the work in the vineyard. He is a hypocrite because he says he will do one thing, yet he does the other. The first son is honorable, though not perfect. He symbolizes the contrite sinner.

The first one.

Actions speak louder than words.
