i will be staying in santa monica. how far is that away from the areas in LA that i have grown up seeing and reading about? like the Hollywood walk of fame,Fred Segal. the Ivy. you know....

there is a good public transit system , here
the Metro (thats the company that operates most of the transit in the LA area -does have all day bus pass for $3.00
its good on any Metro bus and rail lines
you meantion santa monica,
now in Santa Monica they have their own bus company [which is called the Big Blue bus] (which does not *accept the metro day pass) however you can
get an inter-agency transfer from the Metro driver to the Big Blue bus for 25cents..
(the Big Blue buses have routes that extend from
Pacific Palasaide to the Green Line as well as express to downtown Los Angeles.)

There is public transportation between Santa Monica and Hollywood. As LA goes, they're not that far apart. You might invest in some cab rides, especially at night.

Better have a death wish and dont care about personal safety or able to drive like a demon..those people are crazy..I drove through there several times and it was a free for all..Its best to get public transportation that way you can just close your eyes lol..Im serious....its a everybody for themselves enviroment you are taking your life in your own hands..

You really don't want to try and walk between the two. There are numerous buses and even the train. The bus drivers are really very helpful, at least I've found them to be.

you either need a car, a motorcycle, or a moped to get around in la... or through a taxi, walking is impossible. people think you are a hooker if they see you walking on the streets.
