You can't stop him from smoking. Only he can do that for himself. You might ask him if he would try some of the stop smoking medication that are on the market now. It is very hard t stop smoking. I am a smoker and my new years resolution is to quit, but I have medication to take for it. It is a new medication called chanix. It works on the mind and you don't have the craving and you do have any nicotine in your body like you do with some of the other medications on the market. I promise you that this medicine works. I took it for 2 weeks and did not even want to smoke, but my husband smokes also, so I started back. We are both quitting this time. I wish all the luck in talking with your Dad about quitting, but if he doesn't, please try to understand that it is such an addictive habit that you have got to want to quit before you can.

First of all I would start off by saying Dad can we talk man to man somewhere. Then address the issue that it really bothers you that he smokes, and you worry so much about his health, that you want him to be around when you get married and have children. Be completely honest even if your scared. My husband use to drink a lot and our daughter and I went into the garage and and she opened up totally, she said she was scared to say some stuff b/c she was afraid that he would get mad and he said go ahead tell me whats on your mind. She told him that she didn't like him drinking, he gets mean, she even said it's setting a bad example for her and her two sisters and brother. She told him that she doesn't even like being around him when he drinks. For that day on, he has not drank one beer.

So tell him everything, b/c smoking in front of you is very bad b/c of second hand smoke. Hope everything works out ok and I hope you succeed and he quits and I think cig. are going up another dollar after 2006 is up. That's what I heard Good luck

Tell your dad that you do not condone his behavior and that if he really loves you then he should quit for you. But if he doesn't quit, then tell your dad that it must of mean that he doesn't love you.

This will make him think and quit. If he doesn't quit, I would suggest you buy him some patches for Christmas. If he doesn't use them, then I think you should use your stealth skill to sneak in to his bedroom at night when he is sleeping and put the patch on him without being detected. And then set your alarm early in the morning to wake up and slowly unattached the patch on him. You should also offer him some gum everyday (which really is nicotine gum, but don't tell him). This will probably get your dad to quit. If he still doesn't quit and you have some money, then I suggest you send him the hypnosis so that he can be brainwash to quit.

Good Luck.

Tell him if he doesn't stop smoking you are going to show him what it is like to have someone you love slowly kill themselves in from of you. Tell him you will buy drugs and come over and do the drugs in front of him while he smokes his cigarettes. Tell him you can't stand to watch him do harm to himself anymore and he must quit. But the only people who succeed are the ones that quit cold turkey and then don't let anyone smoke in their house or car. In fact, stay away from others who smoke, especially for awhile. Of course, if your bluff doesn't work, don't start doing drugs. That would just be silly.

Depending on your dad's age..its not going to make much difference if he has smoked for a long time and is older. Its a medical fact now that it takes 14 years for any of the damage of cigarette smoking to really start to reverse and well if he is older let him be..its probably one of the few vises that he still enjoys .. let him be.. if he doesnt want to quit but if he is sincere the only way is to stop PERIOD ..no patches ,no gums no nothing.. but really its kind of pointless if he has smoked for a long time..

YOU cannot stop him. HE has to stop, He must want to stop. Until he decides to stop no one can stop him smoking.

You can help him by encouraging him to get professional advice on how to quit smoking. It is a very hard habit to give up. There are lots of stop-smoking counselling agencies out there. Find one for him.

tough one but in Canada they have some ugly pictures of mouths and lungs of smokers... find those pics and then find the actual ingredient list. show him and let him make that decision by himself.

As him to stop for your birthday or Christmas. Say you don't care about anything else, you just want him to quit. Hopefully he'd put out a genuine effort, then.
