I know the price shouldn't really matter as long as she will like it, but I just want to know if I got screwed over or not in the purchase.

The ring is 0.47 ct solitaire princess cut in a 14k white gold setting. Color rating around G/H, VS2. Total cost around $1330. Is that an acceptable price?

Just to add, I haven't asked her the question yet, but hopefully I'll spring it on her this weekend. Although, yes, I'm aware it's probably really cliched to do so around Christmas.

Thanks to all of you for your input, I definitely appreciate the help.

You're second guessing your "deal" which means you really feel that it wasn't a good purchase. The bottom line is- you bought it- so I dont think they will give you your money back-- it doesn't sound outrageous- they charge more for princess cuts- a lot more diamond is wasted in cutting and white gold is now more expensive than yellow- the question is - are there any visible marks? and how clear is the stone?- if there are no carbon marks and visibility is clear- you did good- but for peace of mind, take it to another jeweler and have him look at it- dont get a written appraisal but most jewelers will give you a verbal ballpark and that should make you feel better- congrats!

Price is about right, but needless to women say on these board the size of the diamond does matter. These women who say it is OK cant afford it or their man just did not get them a bigger stone. A .47 ct diamond is nothing and even a embarrassment for the female who is wearing the ring. Another thought, look at what women spend on their purses and clothing. Some of these items exceeded the price of your diamond.
So my thoughts are save your money and look for a bigger stone with the same qualities as your stone.

It sounds like an average price for a retail store on a ring of that quality and carat size. Here's an idea to consider though - a pawn shop! My husband and I went to so many retail stores and were frustrated with how little we could buy with what we felt was a considerable budget. We ended up at the pawn shops and I got a ring about twice the size, the same quality and about half the price we planned on spending.

Just an idea. God bless you!

My ring is a half carat solitaire marquise cut in a gold setting and it's crystal clear. My husband paid a little over a Thousand dollars for it from Kay Jewelers. Yours sounds about right. I wouldn't say you got ripped off. Congrats on the engagement.

I know it can be complicated in finding a ring. When my boyfriend and I went in, looking for one, the "diamond specialist" started rampaging on about the different qualities. My recommendation is to call up a different jewelery store, and ask them what they think, as a second opinion. I'm sure they'd tell you! :)

And...Ha ha, wow. I wish you were my boyfriend right now. That is exactly the classic engagement ring I would love to receive from him. We've decided to get engaged soon also!!! Best of luck to you both!!! :o) True love is amazing, isn't it?!!?!?!?!!! :D :):):)

Princess cut tends to be a bit more expensive than some of the other cuts. sounds beautiful either way and she will have it forever. Just think how much you spend on a car and how long they last. It's a good deal. Good luck

uncomplicated. no longer a great deal, however the diamonds are effective high quality, yet 3 stones equalling 3/4 carats, each diamind is small. you have the skill to do greater useful, shop around, attempt an outlet like Zales or look ahead to a sale. you ought to probably get slightly greater useful cost considering you already know the cost of the stones, (the 4cs) colour, readability, decrease & carat.

It's not the cost of the ring it is the honor of wearing it that is the sweetest part. We were broke when we got married...My golden wedding band with no frills cost him $3.00 at a store going out of business. I wore the same ring for 30 years. My daughter has it now,,,as my husband and I are divorced...Good Luck to you and God Bless you both ...Be Happy!!!!!

it shouldn't matter how much is it... you should know her by know and what she likes... as long as you ask romantilly and in a nice place, she wont even care about the ring only to say yes...
