Either 2 would be great, 2 boys are going to be wild around the house, running and jumping on each other but as far as fighting, if they are raised together then there should not be any fighting, I have had many cats and never had trouble with the males at all.
As for having 2 females, now that my be a bit harder, females are more domestic and the home is their castle, unless they have both been spayed at a very early age, there may be a bite of a power struggle between females, but either way they should be spayed or neutered for many reasons. M

Actually there's no way to tell how any two cats are going to react to eachother. I have cats that are friends with everyone (male and female) and that's the way it's always been and cats that got along in the begining but are no longer friends. In my experience, its the enviornment that matters, not the sex. Actually, females tend to be more territorial towards one another (especially if unfixed) than males. Though unfixed males also have a tendancy of spraying if they feel threatened by the other males, but that can be avoided by neutering them early on. Gererally things will be fine between cats if they are relatively young (if you get them together), but can also learn to be friends with a little time and patience when they are older (e.g. adding a kitten or cat to an already established household). As long as you give them plenty of space to themselves, any cats can co-habitate.

It's better to have two boy cats if you are energetic and you would like to play with them most of the time.
And, it's better to have girl cats if you mostly prefer to be in peace.

I have three female kittens and they are great together. i suggest two/three female cats together. They won't have territorial problems and they won't fight a lot. The only time my cats have ever fought it when I brought the third one home.
EDIT: I'll also suggest that you adopt one as little kittens are very demanding when it comes to attention. The food for kittens is also much more expensive! Also, if you adopt one, they will already be micro-chipped, wormed, vaccinated, spayed and vet checked and will cost much less than a kitten from a breeder would. Goodluck.

I've had both, and it makes a world of difference if they're not neutered. The males spray everything with that stinking smell, they stay gone for days at a time and usually come back all beat up. The girl cats get pregnant every chance they get. If they're neutered they are much easier to handle and you can hardly tell them apart.

In general, I heard males never really seem to lose their playful streaks- aka their biting, pouncing, and wrestling with your hands and feet.
My dad has two females, and they have rarely fought from what he has told me. Two males will tend to be more aggressive towards one another, but they should do well enough as long as they're nuetered. I have been told a great pair is a young male and an older female to deal with him.
It's up to you and what you feel you can deal with and will like. Perhaps you can scope out two cats already paired in shelters and see how they act together.
