Whiteheads & Blackheads
Whiteheads and blackheads are the first stage of acne. Acne develops on hair follicles which have sebaceous glands attached to them. These sebaceous glands produce an oil called sebum. Due to some reasons, the sebum changes in quantity and quality resulting in scales on the hair follicle. These scales block the skin pores causing acne. This blockage of the skin pores is the beginning of acne.
The first stage of this blockage shows up as blackheads and whiteheads. These are also called as comedones. A comedone is a sebaceous follicle that is plugged and filled with sebum, dead cells, etc. An open comedone is called a blackhead because of its blackish appearance. A blocked comedone is called as a whitehead. It is a small bump in the skin with skin like color. A whitehead has a closed mouth and the blackhead has an open mouth. The black color of blackheads is not due to dirt as some believe, but it is the oxidized sebum.
Treatment And Care:
Don't squeeze whiteheads And blackheads yourself. That may leave permanent scars on the skin and also cause infection. The best approach is to go to a dermatologist, who will pick them open, if required under sterile conditions. Note that Acne scars can be permanent. Wash your face gently with lukewarm water and mild soap to remove excess sebum and dead skin. Do this twice a day. Don't be harsh on the skin. Acne takes time to clear. Apply any topical cream that may be prescribed by your dermatologist. Acne treatment requires patience. Some of us think that washing affected area many times a day may clear acne fast. That may rather further inflame the acne. Be gentle and patient. http://www.doctorgoodskin.com/ds/acne/whiteheads-blackheads.php

The blackhead is when a zit is somewhat exposed above the skin layer, so dirt and environmental pollution soil it that color. That's why whenever one is expressed, the bottom part is still whitish in color...it wasn't exposed like the top was.
They do make a blackhead remover, you can usually find them for less than $5.00 at Wal-Mart...they have 2 types...one is a "press" type that looks like a pick, with tiny holes at both ends.
You press the hole over the blackhead and it expresses it.
The other is a suction device that looks like a pedicure tool, but it has a rubber cup on it that is said to gently suction them out of your skin.

They're skin oils and secretions that clog up your pores. The "head" turns black because it's exposed to oxygen, so it oxidizes (like an apple that's cut open and turns brown).
You're not supposed to, but I squeeze them with my fingers. Just make sure your hands are clean, and that you're not squeezing too hard. Try opening your pores first by steaming them, or after a hot shower, or by placing a warm, wet washcloth over the area for a couple of minutes first.
You can also use a blemish-cream that contains salicylic acid to combat pimples and blackheads.

This is the EASIEST & the BEST treatment you'll try!!
Rub a teaspoon of fine salt all over your face gently & wash off!! And you'll notice that your blackheads are gone (not completely but some of them must be gone) & your skin is smooth!!! You'll be amazed! Try it NOW!! Repeat this proccess twice/thrice a week!!
Follow with an egg white mask! Whip an egg white until frothy & slather it on your face. Wait until it dry & wash off with warm water. Then, a splash of cold water. But you don't have to do the egg white mask everytime you did the salt scrub. Once a month is enough but you must to do the salt scrub twice/thrice a week!
GOOD LUCK!!

"Millia seeds" (pockets of oil glands beneath the skin) ..ever present in the facial zones contribute to formation of blackheads as they 'darken' complexion - the only way to rid them is professionally at a skincare salon. No brand/type of cosmetic in the market can be as effective as the professional therapist. Trust me. One visit to the salon is better than all the best brand in the market - many girls don't even know this!

Well I actually squeeze them because all they are are pores filled with dirt and oil. Then I wash my face after that with a scrub like St. Ives apricot scrub in order to exfoliate.

Wash your fash with soap and hot water, the hottest you can put it, it opens the pores, then it makes it easy to remove them by a light squeeze.
