Probably a combination. If you're attractive to them (not just physically!), they would probably ask you in the small chance that you two could hook up.
At least, that is why I would ask.

If they're attached they might be curious about you (which could mean they're attracted but doesn't mean they'd follow through on it), might be hoping for something on the side, might be asking on behalf of someone else who wants to ask you out.

no, they don't seem to be curious nor interested
they rarely say anything at all to me, even if i initiate the conversation
so i doubt they are attracted to me
and that's ok..to each his own
