For the past 12 days, I have been followin' a strict diet of fruits, yogurt, oats. I've been exercisin' everyday..and right now I am so hungry..I feel kinda weak at the moment..but I've lost quite a bit of weight..about 5-6 kg. I guess its mostly water weight..but i do plan to add some salad & fish once I've lost at least another 10 kilos.

I just need some words of encouragement to stop myself from crackin'.. :(

anyone on a diet at the moment?

I think it is really really great that you have the determination to stick to a diet, and follow through with it. I really respect your determination. If you are feeling hungry at the moment, there are a lot of options you can take, drink a glass of ice-cold orange juice, buy some fruits (grapes or strawberries), leave them in the freezer for maybe half an hour, then take them out and chew on them like a popsicle, they taste great(good), and they don't make you gain any weight(better), AND they make your hunger go away(BEST!).

I think you should add some salad and fish sooner. Set your goals high, but not so high that they threaten your health, as a medical student, we have studied that for body's normal function, you are going to need at least some of each nutrients to get the body going.

If you stop taking protein (from meat, fish, beans, soya products), you are going to be encounterring some major health problems, too. Consult a nutritionist about it.

I still think you're doing a great job, though. KEEP UP WITH IT!!!

p/s: My whole family's battling with obesity, though I myself am not obese, I can never keep to a healthy regime like yours!

If you have been losing weight regular but results have started to diminish then you have probably reached a fat loss plateau where fat loss is very slow or has stopped. There can be a few causes but the most common cause is that the body is adapting to the level of activity and calorie intake. To overcome this problem I often take some time out. Yes, I REDUCE exercise and up calorie intake slightly plus I lower the intensity of the exercise.

The reason is that regularly forcing the body to lose weight with lots of exercise AND coupled with insufficient energy and nutrient intake can easily push it into an over-trained state. The body is struggling to recover from all the exercise. If I were to continue exercising the stress would probably cause catabolic hormone levels to rise. This encourages the loss of muscle protein thus lowering metabolic rate. A lowered metabolism is the main reason weight loss slows. Learn more about the plateau when losing weight.

The idea is I raise calories especially protein to help my body recover completely. Less exercise also aids slow recovery and repair minor injuries picked up from all the months of regular training. At this time I also get chance to refresh mental drive and motivation. After about 5 days I slowly start exercising again. The resting period has helped my body become stronger and I then tackle further workouts with new vigor to start boosting fat loss again!

The body needs to recover from the stress of exercise it’s actually one of the most important factors for developing strength and fitness!

As an example, if I'm on around 1800 calories per day and fat loss starts to slow, so within the last 5 days I haven't lost any fat, I stop exercising completely for 5 days. At the same time I up calorie intake to around 2300 per day. After the 5 days I start back with 15 minutes light cycling every other day and again reduce calories slowly beginning at 2000 for a week.

When I’m attempting to lose weight if I hit a slow fat loss plateau, which tends to happen about every 4-5 weeks, I use this method, I also try to change exercise routine or I change the previous one slightly.

Of course you feel hungry! You're not getting enough of the nutrients your body needs! Even on a diet, you should never feel hungry. Once you feel it, your metabolism has slowed.

I'm on a diet at the moment. I've lost 30 pounds, another 30 to go, and I haven't felt hungry, because I still eat, I just eat better stuff. Go get a little snack. It will not hinder your efforts at all.

You need to realise that reason your feeling tired is because your output is greater than your imput. Increase your intake slightly, by adding salad and fish now, if you wait till you loose another 10 kilos then your damaging body, you need the nutrients, calcium, iron, vit b, c and all the others, you cant expect your body to be able to keep up with you if your not giving it what it needs.

exercise without proper diet is just as bad. I feel you also need some carbo if you are exercising vigorously. No, I'm not on any diet - all I know is that the appropriate diet and exercise must go hand in hand. Good luck, take care!

To help you stay feeling fuller try drinking a full glass of water before you eat. Also make sure you are taking a vitamin supplement so your body continues to get all it's needs met. I wish you luck with your diet.

Just make sure you don't have low blood sugar. That could be dangerous. If you feel like you are going to faint, drink a half cut of orange juice with sugar.
