When do you or don't you tip? How much? Why or why not?

Somebody should make a chart to teach people how to tip. I'm sick of waiters or waitresses acting like they are "owed" tips when they give crappy service. If my drinks sits empty too long, if they just bring the food and never check, etc, they get a small if any tip. If they check atleast once after being served, and keep my drink fill without me having to wait 10 min and hunt them down, then I give a good tip. I also hate ordering something, or to be done special, and they bring it out already knowing its not done the way I ask. They should review the food and make sure its what you ordered instead of making you the one who has to send it back.

My theory is to always tip. Usually the standard amount is 15%. But when I am in a larger group(8 or more) or if there is outstanding service, I usually tip 20-25%.

At least 15%. Just remember, waitressing is not a dream job, and a little goes a long ways. Be generous, and do 20-25% for a good job. You should always tip, unless it's a fast food restaurant. Of course, there are some countries (like South Korea) where tipping isn't common.

I normally tip 25%. If the person was very good I'll go to 35%. They have to live too! If the service totally sucked they get a flat 10% and nothing more, if they don't care why should I.

20% for good service at a restaurant,10 to 15% for mediocre service. None for lousy service.
Tip the barber or hair stylist 4 to 5 dollars for a 13 dollar haircut.
tip the taxi driver 4 to 5 dollars .
tip the mailman at christmas time.
Bartender I tip good ,if and when they provide me with good service and are attentive.
hope that helps

Ideally: Tipping is a bonus for a job well done, not to be expected. Think Reservoir Dogs

Pragmatically: Always 15%. No matter what. 20-25 for a good job.

I always tip unless the server is downright rude . I usually tip 20% and sometimes more if they are extra nice or extra fast .......tips are the food server's livelihood. If you are not able to afford a 15% tip , then you should not go out to a restaurant, just go to a drive thru- you don't have to tip at MickeyD's.

I usually tip . . . except when I have absolutely terrible service.

10% for good service
20% for great service

20% for excellent service (sometimes more if I had special requests)
15% for good service
10% for adequate service
3 cents for really lousy service-to show I didn't just forget
If you do the job you deserve acknowledgment.
