My fiance and I visit my father's house where a cat is present. During our visit the cat is locked in the basement but my fiance still receives reactions from the hair on the couches and carpet. Her symptoms are asmtha-like, making it difficult to breathe and to fall asleep later that night. We have tried Benadryl Allergy.

This is my problem where ever i go. Seems like everyone has cats! I have asmtha too..Asthma is also a allergy. So She can get a pill like cloritrimiton, (check spelling)lol..allegra..but as far as her sleeping there no way..Her chest feels like its going to cave in. It's the worst feeling in the world. If they live to far and you need to sleep there, try making it a special trip and get a room. Its not worth it for her its so bad. Benagryl only helps with the itchy watery eys and knocks her out. Or try her DR. there is s series of shots they can give but most doctors don't like to give it to adults. Or just stay away. My parents have 2 and i run in eat and run out. IT'S TRULY THE WORS FEELING IN THE WORLD AND IM SURE YOU FEEL SO BAD TO SEE HER WHEEZING AND ALL...try asking your pharmisist but make sure you tell them about her asthma...

Have him take the benadryl 30 min b4 you go where cats live. Make sure your father vacuums the entire house very well. When you leave he can take some more benadryl..Have him take the liquid..it works better. Not the benadryl allergy just regular benadryl liquid. This should help him not to feel so miserable.

Don't give Benadryl, it can make asthma worse.

Try Claritin. It's OTC now, so it should be available. Also, you may want to pick up a Primatene inhaler, it can help with the wheezing.

After the holidays, she may want to go to a pulmonologist and get tested for asthma or other airway disorders. They can prescribe inhalers that will fix the symptoms.

I had the same problem years ago at my sisters house, I became asthmatic I had to stop going over. I got the most relief from a hot shower & breathing in very deep while in there. My Dr had to put me on an inhailer.
When my sister moved to a house w/hardwood floors the problem ended, The doctor tells me it the dander that I'm allergic to .

If you go over to that house, nothing will change the reaction to the cat dander already present in the house. In fact it really does no good to lock up kitty as even this will make no difference. I suggest you go elsewhere or limit the time you spend in the house.

She has serious allergic reactions. I had to have allergy shots to help mine. Find a ear nose and throat dr. ENT that do skin testing for allergies and she can get shots. This will help her. They do a test on the skin to determine your level of allergie to certain things and then make your own vial of medicine specific to your level that helps a lot. Good Luck.

My fiance had the same problem ...he uses Benadryl D ...you can get it at walmart ...but you have to get it from the pharmacist.. they do not keep it on the shelfs. We have 3 cats and he has no issues now.

unfortunately there is not much else that can be done unless you want to go to a medical doctor and take the allergy shots. A pharmacist may be able to direct you in another direction that would be better. try that. good luck
