There are two ovenlike pieces of equipment in a micro lab. One is an incubator, which warms cultures to body temperature to encourage the growth of microorganisms.

The other is an autoclave, which sterilizes instruments at high heat and pressure. Labs that use disposable equipment don't always have an autoclave.

an oven kills the bacteria on the apparatus, pipets, bottles, etc. -- it acts to sterilize them. I forget the temperature, I think it's like 450 degrees for 2 hrs
