I'm no microbiologist, but I do believe it's used to sterilize medical equipment

I am certainly no microbiologist, however, I worked in the health profession for years. So; this is my answer to you;

To the best of my knowledge an autoclave is used to sanitize. Bedpans, embasis basins, mens urinals, ect.

it is used to sterilize things...tattoo artists also use them for sterilizing their equiptment....hope i was helpful
