you go to juvy til the hearing-the court should appoint an advocate for the minor. How long til the 18th birthday? where was the minor staying? possible charges could be brought against the person sheltering the minor....but it is unlikely if the runaway was not there the whole time or the time away from home was not that long. fostercare is a possibility if going home is not an option. the minor could also seek the advise of a lawyer to begin emancipation proceedings-legally declared an adult before the 18th birthday.

If you live in Georgia, and your parents live in GA, actually you can't be a run away at 17. You can be 17 and have left home and moved out.

But at 17 in GA you can move out,

** I know because when one of my boys was 17 he moved out and there was nothing that could be done. From GA

Unless the law has changed ( that boy is in his mid 20's now)
But in states where the age to move out is 18, the police nomrally just take you home, or turn you over to juv dention, they have a hearing, appoint you an attorney and either keep you till you are 18 or turn you over to your parents.

~I doubt the police would even look for you, you're almost 18. If they did find you, after having a police report that you are a runaway, you could end up in jail. It's hard to place someone that age in a foster home.
Why runaway when you can just move out? ~

alot of states will try to send you back to your parents. i think the state of georgia would attempt to contact your parents wherever they are and try to ship you back. if not, they'll find something to charge you with, thats if they havent already made it a crime for being a homless minor. but its a deffinite possibility you could be ending up in jail/juvi. check this site out:

these people are in atlanta, and they will give you food, clothing and shelter. they are not religous, but they will probably offer to help you out with whatever problems you're having along the lines of education, and will try to find out why it is you're homeless in the first place, and see what they can do about trying to get you on your own feet, and get you your independence. i've heard about 16 year old kids holding a job and renting out their own apartment. you just need some luck, and you have to want it badly enough. (in other words, if you gotta flip burgers to pay rent, then thats what you gotta do. if they give youa freakin toothbrush, and tell you to go scrub the toilets, as long as you get minimum wadge at the end of the day, you'll be getting by.) its not a glamorous life, but if its better than what you were getting where you were at in life, before all this shite started, then your better off, and thats the only way you should look at it. let me know what you think! let me know if you need additional help finding out where this place is!

those solutions are incorrect. you may pass away residing house at 17. At sixteen or youthful, you will possibly be reported as a run away. yet as quickly as you turn 17, there's no longer something the mother and father can do, as long as she keeps to be in school. If she keeps to be in school, she is fantastic. I moved out without parental permission at 17, and my mom tried to record me as a run away, yet there replaced into no longer something she ought to do approximately it, through fact i replaced into nonetheless attending college. in spite of the shown fact that, just to make useful, touch her close by police branch, no longer 911, yet seem interior the telephone e book, and there must be a police workplace selection. or you may touch the national Runaway center. That selection is interior the telephone e book too, seem below the components section. in spite of the shown fact that, i'm useful that what I instructed you interior the initiating is actual, as long as she keeps to be in school, she is fantastic.

Well, if you are not in your home state, they take you back and then you have a court date and could end up on probation with community service or you could end up going to juvenille hall or a group home.
