I just ended my first relationship ever after 4 years. Me and my partner separated on good terms and still talk to each other, but I can't help but wonder if he ever thinks about our relationship. So guys who have been in a similar situation can you lend a hand? Is it easy or hard for you to stay friends with an ex girlfriend after you've both agreed that the relationship was rocky when it ended?
Also, now that I'm single, I want to start making new male friends (I've never had any besides my ex). The problem is that when guys do talk to me they're typically interested in me and want to date. I don't want that-I just prefer the company of men and want someone to hang out with. What can I do to establish healthy plutonic relationships with men?

it takes a VERY long time to be friends with someone you have dated and been intimate with. Best to stay away from each other for awhile. Even if you both say you're fine. Both of you need that time to accept the fact that it is over and you have to treat each other differently.
It's hard to make male friends if you haven't been friends with them for awhile already, because no matter what (guy or girl) you're going to look at the other sex as potential dating material. If you're a flirty girl, better learn to tone it down so they know the deal. Some guys will take personal offense to this, others will stick along for the ride and realize you are someone they never would have wanted to date.

First things first. While there's nothing wrong with wanting a platonic relationship with a man, but it sounds like you are deep down holding out for another chance with your ex. While it may seem easy for you to be friends with your ex, it's making it difficult for you to want to move on. You can still be friends, but you and your ex need some time away from each other.

As for having a healthy platonic relationship with men, try being friends with men who are in long-term relationships. Usually (but not always) when a single man wants to be friends with a single girl, it's to see if she's worth dating.
