I have a 4 month old 30 lb Rottweiler female puppy. She is an inside dog, but when the kids (13 and 9) come downstairs or anyone gets up to move, she gets hyper, jumps on them, bites at their toes, just drives us crazy until we eventually get fed up and let her go out back and lay on the porch.
How do we go about training her to get her to calm down when people enter or leave a room?

First of all I'm jealous! I lost my rottie in Jan. 4 months old, it's time to start puppy class with a trainer. Puppies are like having another child...when her siblings come downstairs it's time to play. If the kids come down and she has been sleeping you need to let her out first thing anyway if she wakes up. After that she needs to know what is ok to bite and what is not and that responsibility is up to you! Your kids weren't born just knowing what was right....right? Give her a toy, distract her, praise her when she does what you need her to do. Rotties can be a very head strong stubborn breed so be very consistent and when you think you are about to pull your hair out you probably need to do it again! Stick with it and a Rottie can be the most loyal, fierce (in a good way) companion that your family will ever experience.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL2Du

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

You could try taking her to Pet-Co thy have a great training program for puppies 6 months and younger. You might want to go soon because Rottweiler and German Shepherd breeds are very protective over their family. I have a 5 month old Rottweiler/Shepherd/Lab mix and he is very protective around new people. But he doesn't bite, just barks. :-)

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/xPkIr

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

THIS IS EASIER THAN YOU THINK -

To get a dog to be calm you simply have to do this - However all the family have to do it including the kids or it won't work:

Whenever you walk into the room for the first time - Do not talk to your dog - Make eye contact with your dog or touch your dog for twenty minutes. Keep doing this for a month!
I promise you that after a month your dog will be totally calm and will only come to you after twenty minutes and in a calm way. This method has been proven to work, however - it's harder for us humans to do because we feel bad for the dog. YOU MUST
PERSEVERE FOR YOU PUPPIES SAKE! All the best

Have treats in your pocket, give treats to your kids. When your dog lays down and is good, give her a treat. Have your kids come into the room and tell her to lay down. Wait until she does, then give her a treat. Make sure you tell her "No" if she jumps on them, no hitting. Treats will work. Good luck
