My husband and I are TTC, we've made the decision to use a midwife, and a birthing center when we do get pregnant. I'm curious who else out there has gone this way with you're pregnancy, and how you're experience was. I have a VERY high tolerance for pain, and plan to use natural pain relief,(breathing, hypno-birthing, ETC) Please let me know about your experience and what you're suggestions are about natural pain relief techniques. Thanks!

I am the queen at natural birth (at least in my mind) I gave birth in my mother's living room. I had a wonderful midwife! I was in labor for ten hours. Then my baby got stuck. I pushed for five hours! Now let me just say that I am a baby and do not tolerate pain well. But the pain is there for a reason and I did it! It was a blessing I had my son at home. I did some research and with all their "rules" on labor in the hospitals my son would have died. Giving birth where you want is our right. I was born at home and I will have every one of my children at home. With my wonderful midwife to help. Hope that helps!

Hi! Congratulations! I have two kids and another on the way. My deliveries and births were great even though I didn't use the natural method. I wanted to then gave into the epidural. It was still a wonderful experience for both. I was able to labor for about 5-6 hours and then have the epidural. Then I took a nap, woke up, they checked me and it was time. Both times my girls were out in 4 contractions. They were almost identical. No problems and very fulfilling. Now, I still slightly envy women who are able to give birth painlessly (I have a hypno-birthing book I'm reading now). I am learning about relaxation techniques in the hypno-birthing right now for this birth. I will still sign the release for the epidural but I would like to see if I can relax enough to maybe experience a little of what some of these women in the book are talking about. I truly believe that our bodies are made for this and know what to do. I think you'll be more comfortable in a birthing center than in a hospital. I would just tell you to take classes in whatever method you choose. I don't have time to take a hypno-birthing class so I'm just reading the book. My expectations are not that high. I would also look into reflexology. It's very interesting. Take care and God bless! Oh and make sure you're getting your vitamins - you need that folic acid now!!

I went natural with both my boys. I decided at the beginning that drugs weren't something i wanted and i can't even stand to watch an epidural on TV let alone let someone stick it in me. My cousin had one done for a c-section and it took them several tries then they hit a nerve along her spine so now she has permenant damage from it. I did ok. By the time the really bad pain came I was already 8 cm dialated so I went fast after that and only took a few pushes and they were out. I am pregnant with my 3rd now and will go natural again if everything goes as planned. I just did a lot of breathing through the pain and tried to focus on the fact that I was going to have a new baby to love and hold. It is hard I have to be honest about that, and it is painful and a lot of woman really just can't handle it and go for the epidural especially if labor is taking a longer time. My bestfriend tried natural and she just couldn't do it she ended up with the epidural but she also took painkillers for 2 wks afterwards because she can't handle much pain at all

i was scared when i went in to labour. i was having contractions for a week and a half and the doc wouldnt induce me. i came back home and got mad. then went to the healt nit and was told there would be no delivery nurse in town monday or tuesday (sept 11 &12) my daughter was due wednesday. when i got back home i was laying down to take a nap when all of a sudden i was wet. i still wasnt in any pain but had to go to the hospital anyways. the next night at aroung 10:30 i started to feel it more. they took my to LDR and 5 puches later she was out. i am a big wimp when it come to pain and i was fine i got right up after and went for a shower and a walk. not even a few hours after she was born. I was so glad i did it with out any pain relief. it is the best way to go i belive. good luck.

P.s. I was also back to running after my 3 year old 2 days later. :-)

I wish you the best... and hope everything turns out the way you want, but be mentally prepared for anything!!!
If things don't happen naturally, don't get down on yourself... in the end you're still coming home with a beautiful baby!

My labour was terrible, I refused pain meds cause I didn't want to be dopey when My baby came out... but they did convince me to take morphine.. it wore off in 4 hours and I did the worst and last 3 with nothing... and I will tell you, it was worth it. To FEEL that baby come out.... to be aware of everything from that moment on... totally priceless

Best of luck to ya. Me personally, if I ever get pregnant, I want to be so doped up I couldn't feel getting hit by a dumptruck.
