Here is an interview with the therapist. I know it is not a correct English, though I still need a help to understand what man2 is trying to say!

man1:that was what I was thinking, is how do we avoid going back through this again.

man2:As if the problems that they present aren't discouraging enough, and then you have to add that as the likelihood that when you help them through, they will just lose it in another situation.

man1:Well, and this is why I think the concept of brief therapy is an important one. I would expect to see this family perhaps for years to come, and they would go away and they would come back

As I take it, man2 means "if one problem is solved, then another one will appear in later life and do the same thing again."???

you're pretty much correct. To answer your question, I could give you an old saying "give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day; teach a man how to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime." Many people who go for therapy go to get assistance in dealing with the current issue at hand and rarely do patients apply what they learned in the old issue to any present or future problems that arise. Whether they (the client) do the same thing again isnt' really the issue as it is that clients who get assitance and coping skills apply the lessons broadly in the future so that if similar mistakes are made, they arent as serious as they would be in the past.

The sentence is quite tough to understand especially for a person like who is so dumb would never have the chance to understand. Maybe the answer you have now is correct maybe that's the answer you're having is the answer to all the questions you're having in your brain now, I guess. Anyway, nice answering your answer.
