When buying a camcorder you should get a digital one with a MiniDV format, the best quality of formats. To hook the MiniDV up to the computer you will need to buy an IEEE 1394 firewire cord. (Only if you choose to get the MiniDV) The best brand to look for, in my opinion, is Canon.

Canon Camcorders:
Canon Elura 100
Canon ZR500
Canon ZR600

*Look for other Canons under the "ZR" line*

Some websites to research:

*You can check customer reviews on those sites*

You won't go wrong with a Sony MiniDV camcorder.

I would buy one with either a flash drive on it or one that records to mini DVDs. That way you'll be able to watch them on your computer/DVD player. You can always try eBay, Craigslist, Overstock, OnlineAuctions etc.
Hope I helped!
