No matter what someone does, isn't it a bit harsh to burn in hell for eternity. I mean, that's such a long time.

I hear you. Don't think I haven't spoken that thought aloud myself. I am a bible believing Christian who loves God and believes His word. And....yes, I have asked that question as well.

His word pretty much sums it up: "I will have mercy on who I shall have mercy". Also, "God's ways are not our ways". That is as close as I have ever come to an answer on this one, for myself.

Some Bible scholars believe that the fire and burning is a metaphor. In reality it means to most, eternal separation from God.

Even if there is no actual fire, being eternally separated from the source of all good is a horrible penalty.

The whole concept of hell is unfair. If a person lives a good life but doesnt accept God, they supposedly go to hell. however a rapist and a murderer can supposedly find his way into heaven by just saying a little prayer. This is why I do not believe in God or heaven or hell.

Well you have the power to send yourself or go to heaven. Accept Jesus Christ in your life and you won't go. He has taken the keys of hell from Satan, meaning that you don't have to go there. Make a decision. Don't play God like that, He's not the enemy here. You can inherit eternal life through Jesus.

Of course not.
There is no murderer you can think of who you would choose to keep torturing in a pit of fire forever...assuming the torture was up to you. Eventually, even the families of those he'd murdered would become sickend by what they were doing.
If they didn't then they wouldn't be very good people.
So, answer your own question: would a just god do that?
Plainly, no.

God is just and holy and what he does is always fair..If you refuse to take life seriously and do what God requires of you then that is not God's problem. He will send people to tell you about him and if you make a joke out of it, well you will suffer the consequences..
BUT FAIR, YES HE IS ALWAYS FAIR..

God leaves that choice up to you. You can choose the path to God and have eternal life with Him or you can choose the path away from God and spend eternity away from Him. It's all up to you

What wouldn't be fair is Jesus being tortured and dieing for our sins, and those who do not believe being allowed in heaven.

Hi Tommy Lee Where are the girls girls girls?

It would be unfair if there actually was a hell.

But you don't HAVE to burn in hell. He gives us a choice. God doesn't force anyone into heaven. Thinking hell is harsh is a natural human response. I don't think anyone can fully embrace just how bad sin is. We are born into it. We are raised in a swirling mass of imperfect people as an imperfect person. God knows the true nature of sin and from what He says, it deserves death. None of us "deserves" to go to heaven, but God allows it if we place our faith in Him.
