Get a good lawyer or safety consultant that specializes in transportation, they will prove invaluable.

Some of the stuff you'll need:
Provincial authority from Ontario
A USDOT number to operate here in the states.
Operating Authority from the states you plan to travel in.
An IFTA sticker
IRP license plates, with proportioning to all of the states you plan to travel in.

I know there's alot more, that's just the tip of the ice burg.

Best of luck to you!

P.S. That's not a class D license, it's a class A license.

Just a comment -- for large companies -- say like Schneider -- with a large organization of people who specialize in obtaining permits, customs authorizations, temporary passes etc. it's not too much of a problem transporting goods between the US and Canada. For a small organization or single individual its pretty much a nightmare. You need all the paperwork and an agent in Canada (I forget their official name) to get you through customs. If you specialize in doing all this and you can streamline the process you may make out ok. Why not call one of the big companys pretend you are a shipper and find out what's up.

One way to avoid the "red tape" hassle of doing it yourself, is to lease your truck to a transportation company (like ATC, Horizon, or other independent transportation firms) as an Owner/Operator. These companies will make sure that your vehicle and operator are properly licensed and proportioned for all areas of travel. However, the above named companies require a minimum of 2 years Over-the-Road experience to lease or hire.
