Why do males cheat?

Because they are acting selfish, just like women do.
That is until they get caught and loose their loved ones via divorce and then they act like neutered dogs.
They stay at home; they keep their eyes for only one who will put up with them.
To bad most have to learn that lesson the hard way.

Ya know, it's not a an easy question, nor an easy answer. I can't tell you how often I've seen other men cheat on their wives or girlfriends with a mistress who is far less attractive than the wife or girlfriend. It's interesting how, if found out, the women are somehow offended that he didn't cheat with a more attractive woman. Often (IMHO) it comes down to affection and even a feeling of connection. I can't emphasize how much stock most men put on physical affection. Not really even the sex, just the feeling that their wife loves them enough to make love. When hectic schedules and exhaustion interfere, many a man starts to feel undesirable and unnecessary. And even though they can't verbalize it, they are really looking for a brand of romance and acceptance. Sometimes wives need to explain to husbands that helping with family obligations helps make a wife more affectionate. Scheduling romance is not a bad thing. But one thing is certain, a sexless relationship is fuel for cheating. Somewhere out there is a woman who wants a man, and your man is looking pretty good to her. Men are conditioned to pursue and really aren't very good at saying no. Not an excuse, just the facts, Maam. Keep em happy and keep em at home. Good Luck.

There is an evolutionary advantage to males impregnating as many women as possible, diversifying the gene pool for maximum survival of the species.

Besides the biological pressure, there is also social pressure. It is considered more impressive to other males if a guy has many conquests. Less impressive that he's been in a monogamous relationship.

And irrespective of their gender, people live for the moment and don't think of consequences. They believe they won't be caught, and that's all that matters. And suprisingly, a lot of people don't believe they can be faithful, but keep trying.
