NOT the movie theater. That is not a date. That is two people looking at a wall together.
Take a walk together where you can find a fountain. Stroll through a pet store. Someplace where you will talk and relax around each other.
Go to a buffet restaurant and build the other person's meal for them. Learn about each other. Those are the most memorable and fun dates. Take a trolly or bus ride.

A place that both of you can be comfortable and be able to talk. Also it has enough activities going on so that if the conversation gets slow, it is not awkward silence. Bowling, miniature golf, movies, etc. Depending on the age... museums, zoos,
