he's a gentlemen around me.he tries not to swear in front of me,pays for things for me.we have some same interests so we talk a bit about them and he does listen to what is say.he's asked me to go out before and said he'll pay just as an aquaintance type thing but i said no.tells me about his friends/family and his life.talks about his job.tells me when he's had a thought about me.but he's real easygoing and i just get the feeling he doesn't feel the same.he's older too.and when we talk he gives good eye contact.but then other times he looks away.laughs at some things i say.what do you think

Just that it sounds to me like you want this to be more than it is yet ,you know the answer in your heart already.
The "only way" to really know for sure would be to straight up ask him!
Ask him if he is only interested in being friends.Tell him you dont mean to push -it's just that you would like to know because you dont know what to say-if someone else were to ask you out on a date!

Where are you together.... work? School? Common friends? If you have things to talk about (you do), go out where it's just you two, even if it's just casual lunch, coffee, etc. See how he acts toward you there. And consider that maybe he's interested, but he's not getting that feeling back from you. If you're together, just the two of you, try to make plans for just you two at a later date... see how that works. If he's interested he should take you up on it. good luck.

It sounds like he likes you.
Some guys just take longer to get it together when it comes to women. Give him time. He sounds like a winner. You have got the advantage because you peak his interest. That is a good sign.
