I rescued a stray last March and I really just don't know what she is. I've got some ideas, but about the time I think I have it figured out someone says she is something else or I find a picture of a dog online that looks a whole lot like her. First I heard some kind of Australian Sheperd mix, next she looked a lot like a Brittany Spaniel. The reason I would really like to know is so I can find out more about her breed(s) She is wild and crazy and I am trying to find the best way to train her, especially from jumping all over everyone. She is very demanding, in a very loving way, but still wants to boss you around. And she likes to try and control me with her paws. She pulls me closer by putting her paws on my forarms and pulling. Can anybody tell me if they know of a site or let me know if any of these chararistics sound familiar?

Try Dogster.com. You can set up a web page and post multiple pictures of your dog for free. Get into a breed group or just post on the forums they have and say you want info on the type of dog-you will get lots of help. Also, I have a Britt. If you go to the AKC website you can get a ton of breed info and links to local breed groups with contact info. Try emailing them and ask for thier help. Britts are high energy dogs, come in different colors (liver/white, orange/white, tricolor, and in the UK black/white are acceptable). Britts are great-in my eye-but since they have a very different purpose in the work they do than an Aussie, the way you work with them is going to differ. I would look into the AKC site to get more info. Even with a mixed breed dog, knowing the main dogs in the mix can help with training issues since you will know a bit more about your furry bud. Best of luck to you and your pup!

I don't know of a site, but you can get a book on dogs and look at all the breeds and see which ones she looks the most like.
You can also take her to a vet and see what they think she is.
But she is some kind of working dog. Like what they use for herding sheep.

Good Luck!!

You should post a link to a pic!! Judging from your description of her behaviour though, it sounds like she's some kind of a herding dog or a working dog mix. High energy (herders) and tries to get you to do her own thing (herders) with her arms (not really a herder, but could be her variation!!)...

Finding out what breeds she's made up of isn't going to help you train her though. There are variations within breeds as to behaviours. You're just going to need to be very persistent and patient.

Also, we could all check out her pic and give you opinions, but they'll be just that, opinions - ie guesses. No one is going to know for sure. I have one bitzer, and he really is bitzer everything!! Your guess would be as good as mine!!

You will never know because it is in fact a mix and anyone telling you no matter who it is vet, trainer, groomer etc what the breed is will only be guessing. The only way you can know for sure is if you knew the parents.
As for behavior problems what you should do is enroll the dog and yourself in a training program a knowledgeable trainer will be able to help because they would know several ways to help with the problems you are having. Even if you knew the breed not all methods of training works with all dogs.
Stay away from petsmarts and petco because the trainers they employ only know one way to train which is not good for all dogs and all problems.

Ask any Vet and they can tell you. Ask how much it will cost to look at the animal,or if they could just take a quick look for nothing.
