This isn't a racist comment. Just an observation. Why is it that the sport of boxing has been dominated by minorities for decades. Mainly Hispanics and Blacks. Yet a large about of the films are about real boxers from decades ago or fictitious ones are white? It doesn't seem fair to me. the Rocky films,Cinderella Man,Million dollar baby, and the list goes on. Yet only Black boxer film was Ali from 2001.

So I ask why? with all of the real boxers in the world today. Do we center on the ones for decades ago or make them up. Is it because the hasn't been a White American heavyweight champ since the mid 50's

Why does Rocky continue to beat up Black boxers for the Heavyweight championship. (he's only fights whites when the championship isn't at risk) In the world of Hollywood black boxers are villains, black promoters are vile, and black trainers are only good when they are training a white boxer.

I know these are statements are unpopular and the most part ignored. but someone has to ask

All I'm asking is a balance portrayal of the sport of boxing. based on the films there aren't any Blacks or Hispanic boxer. It would be just as bad as a Hockey movie about a all minority team beating all comers in NHL and winning the Stanley Cup.

Whites want to believe that they have something, but they don't. That's why they overcompensate by making the white guy the winner. It's simple.

First, Rocky I was written by Stalone as a fiction (the story behind it is pretty interesting but I won't get into it) and the franchise took off, with Stalone wanting to end it after IV, but getting talked into a sequal which he didn't like and finally a much better ending to the series. In case you didn't know, outside of the street fight in Rocky V the movie was awful, Rocky Balboa is a much more suitable end for the franchise. Also the Heavyweight championship wasn't technically on the line since it was an exhibition match in Rocky Balboa- that's splitting hairs though. Apollo Creed, or his trainers (his promotor was white) wasn't ever truly painted as a "bad guy" until 2 when he wanted to take on that role. There also was a montage in Rocky 3 where he fought some white contenders when he was the champ, and Spider Rico at the beginning of Rocky 1.

Also, Klitschko was white and a champ not too long ago.

The fact of the matter is outside of Ali, there are few black or hispanic boxers with a legacy... Joes Frazier and Louis being two of the few that come to mind. I don't doubt that Joe Louis will have his turn in a major silver screen production (he has had multiple small ones). There is also a bit of a nostalgia factor- Cinderella Man was a story about a boxer when the sport was dominated by whites. Once time goes on and nostalgia sets in, we will begin to see more boxing movies about blacks and hispanics.

Rocky is a Pop Icon. I have to admit I am very interested in seeing this movie. I mean truly - Rocky should be an old man by now and really has no business getting back in the ring. But it is not about that. Lets look at the big picture - it is about strength and determination. All Rocky knows is the ring. When you are a fighter you always wanna go that extra round. I always heard talk of this movie being made - but I thought it would have been his son in the ring bringing back the Balboa name.

well million dollar baby wasnt exactly all white. Ali was black. stallone cant help being white, but he did put in apollo creed, and mr t. cinderella man is white, but thats from a different era. black boxing movies, or hispanic boxing movies will come. there will be movies on tyson, or the hispanic guy with his own tv show. the problem is, the minorities have only been in the picture for 40 years or so, and most people remember them clearly, which makes seeing them in a movie less appealing. also, stories like cinderella man, are virtually impossible in modern day boxing, your average present day dock worker has no chance at knocking out a world class boxer, so in that respect, minorities missed out on the underdog era. Now due to intense scrutiny and coverage, its a surprise if a 10 seed beets a number one, and thats just not worth making a movie over.

ok. here's the thing. Most of the great feats in boxing took place years ago, when people respected each other. these people in the movies lived in a time when blacks and hispanics were having a hard time. And i think you're coming to conclusions based on your narrow minded point of view and should not think that you know anything.... period.

Because whites now control the HW division. There are no good black fighters in boxing or in mma, just in the midget weightclasses. The russians and slavs have taken over (aka the true badasses in both mma and boxing).
