I understand what you are saying, i think people who are not black or person of color fail to realize the perception society has on beauty.

The long, blonde hair, light skin, blue eyes is society(white's perception of what is beautiftu)

Going back to ancient times we were made to feel inferior about our skin being beatiful.Of course all woman of color in every shade are beautiful, but it's the one extreme going to other, completely trying to cover up or mask what is in fact already beautiful. I am dark skin, with dark eyes and natural hair, and i love who i am would never try to become or look like the opposite of what i am. Alicia Keys is half white and black and still rocks her natural curls and big ol' puff pony tails, she embraces her heritage both sides and people should dig her confidence. Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Nicole Ritchie, and Jessica Alba are all women of color and none have which to embrace the ethnic part of them. Look at the mags they are looking more and more white part of which is airbrushing, but again it's society's perception of beauty

Buying colored contacts, hair weaves, and trendy clothes has nothing to do with claiming to be strong black women. Some African Americans are born with green eyes and sandy blonde hair, like myself. This trait often emerges within our culture from rapings of ancestors and interracial relationships of our ancestors. Weave doesn't define who you are as a human being it only enhances your beauty and self-confidence. Often times, the black woman's self-esteem is so low because of their characteristics that fall short of being what society deems to be the "perfect look." (Small waist, small lips, light eyes, etc) These characteristics are beginning to change and big plump lips are beginning to be accepted as okay to have and big booties are more attractive than they once were. Overall, society's influence have caused you to be as opinionated as you are and to believe that contacts and weaves are only for other races. Black women are strong no matter what. We have been through so much and still continue to go through a lot. We have been used, abused, and mistreated for centuries like all other races. Women altogether are strong individuals. If you have beared a child; you should know exactly what I mean! It's okay to love your race, but don't be so negative towards women who use makeup, contacts, and weaves as a crutch to feel better about themselves. I'm more than sure that there's somehing you want to change about yourself!

Just because they choose to experiment with hair colour and eye colour does not mean they are not proud of what they have or of their race. It just means they like to change up how they look. It's not about looking white it's about trying blonde hair. If a white person dyes their hair black you don't accuse them of trying to be black...its just a change. Im sure some dark women feel shame in their colouring and thats why they do it but for the most part i would say its just for fun. I'm not a fan of coloured contacts because they look so fake but maybe thats cause i like my eyes and the rest is fake hahaha.

good question.

It's not about looking white or like any other race, it's their body and dressing it is an art. Some people get carried away but when done in moderation, it can enhance beauty. No color eyes or hair belong to any 1 race. They are not trying to fool anyone, it's just art..appreciate it or close ur eyes. whites tanning doesnt mean the want to be black. it's their body to do as they please. I bet u are some plain boring jane. live a little & understand that u can be strong regardless of ur appearance and it's not denying ur race or culture. it's called FASHION. get a grip. strength comes from within.

It has mainly to do with Society's idea of beauty. Unfortunately in America many people are closed-minded and think that "White is Right". Many of these girls may have never been told that their short hair and dark brown eyes were beautiful so they seek to attain what they always see on TV. Just look at the role models avalable to Black girls. How many do you see that are not light complected with long hair. Of course we have Lauren Hill and India Arie but these women dont get nearly as much attention as Beyonce and Mariah Carey. Women have a right to alter their appearance but when pondering why they do it it is usually best to look at the ideals of American society.

that is not why 'all' black women do that first of all. It could just be that they like the way it looks or just something different or may have seen their girlfriend do the same thing. As a black man I would like to believe that we are past the point where we think changing our hair color or eye color makes you a different color. I was born black and I will die black.

I think they do it because of the contrast. Dark skin & light eyes are very pretty to some people and it's different and eye catching. I don't think they're interested in fooling anyone either. Everything doesn't have to be a stupid race & pride issue.

Maybe they view themselves as strong women who have enough self esteem to dress to please only themselves or their significant other. It's great when you don't limit yourself to what society thinks you should be; it will be even better when we ourselves don't limit others to what we perceive to be expected norms. On a more serious note, I have heard of black youth being criticized (by other black youth) for making good grades in school because making good grades was being "too white". Unfortunately, this kind of harassment is not limited to the black community.

It's what's inside that's important.

First of all, some black people have natural blue eyes, some of them can grow their hair long, others rare but there are black people with blond hair....don't be so judgemental.....why does it have to mean that they are trying to look white? that's just another stereotypical question. from another stereotypical person

I'm white, and I change my hair color and wear extensions sometimes, not because I'm trying to be another race, but because I'm creative and I enjoy changing my looks. Why can't black women be creative and enjoy changing their looks too? I think you are a racist, and I don't think you have any class.
