No, I don't think it's the antiperspirants that do that- they stop sweat under there. Perhps a deodarant may do that. More likely than not, its the sweat that stains, not the anti-perspirants.

Certain anti-perspirants definitely stain the shirt armpits. Sweat doesn't usually do it alone, at least in my experience. I don't know whether it's the mixture of the two or what, but there definitely is something going on that sweat alone won't do.

There is an antiperspirant called Crystal that is supposed to be aluminum-free and does not stain, and I've tried it with good results as far as staining, but mediocre results as far as being an effective antiperspirant. I switched back to Mitchum gel -- even though it has messed up a few shirts before. Wish there was something that worked well and didn't have the potential to ruin shirts.

It's probably not the antiperspirant that is doing it, but the acidity of your sweat that is causing the discoloring. It will happen mostly to natural fibers like cotton.

I know that the ones that claim "aluminum-free" are not supposed to discolor. I was having that problem for a few years, and a friend told me to switch, and I haven't had a problem since. I use Adidas aluminum-free types.
