Just right click the file and change it's extension name to something else (i.e. myfile.txt) Window won't open it in ur video player. If other try to click on it they will just see greeks in their notepad or wordpad.
If it doesn't work then go to the command dos prompt and enter in the dictionary and type
ren myfile.dat myfile.txt
If u want to view it again just rename it back to myfile.dat
it's so easy.....
why did u ask....... r u getting naughty....?? Lol

You can change the suffix on the file. The system will give you a warning but you can ignore it, as long as you convert it back if it is a required file. The file will not be available to the system while you have the name changed. Example you could change
file1.dat to file1.temp
If you do not want anyone to see the file, you either need a folder encryption program, or if you have admin privileges, you need to set up a folder that only you have permission for and put the file into that folder. To change settings on a folder, right click and go into security and sharing.

You can rename the extension without changing the contents of the file. What will happen is that windows won't know you changed a myfile.wav to myfile.txt for example.
So the hidden sound file renamed as a text file will be opened by windows as a text file. Either windows will fail opening because the file can't be read by the text program or you will see jibberish.
To restore the file just rename myfile.txt back to myfile.wav
not window will open the file as a sound file and play it.
You can do this for all types of files. Windows will just give a warning message Are youe sure you want to do this? before you rename the extension

instead of renaming the file, why not hide it? Right click one the file, select Properties, in the "Attributes" select Hidden. Now the file is hidden. When you want to see the file again, open "Windows Explorer" > Tools > Folder Options > View > Show Hidden Files and Folders.

Why bother? Hide it -- right-cl on the file, select Properties, click "hidden." To view it again, click View, Folder Options,View, and put a checkmark to view all files.
You could also right-cl on the file and "rename" it to something that sounds boring.
You could lock it with a password:
Open the file
cl Save AS
set a password to open

Sure it can be done, just do one thing rename it with .dll extention. for Example.
your file name is abc.dat, rename it as abc.dll file, you know what not only ur file name will change but its looking will be like a DLL files like system files. When u want to use it ren it back to as abc.dat.
if you do it with Command prompt the result will be more good.

simple - go to download.com> search for file securer> download
Just set your password, put the files in a folder and lock it, only you know the password, so only U can open it.
The folder cannot be MOVED, COPIED, CUT, PASTED OR DELETED.
But make sure you don't have2 OS on your computer, It can be deleted from the other OS.
