Christmas was a Christian holiday first. It isn't suppose to be thought of as "Jesus' birthday," but rather the day in which Jesus' birth is celebrated. Of course no one knows the exact day on which Jesus was born, so Christians chose December 25th. People started exchanging gifts with one another in order to be reminded of the wise men who presented Jesus with gifts.
The idea of gift giving caught on, and became popular with everyone, not just Christians. This is why atheists celebrate Christmas too - but they have chosen to keep the gift giving potion of Christmas, while they disregard everything that concerns Jesus. Now it has gotten to the point where gift giving, materialism, and commercialism dominate every Christmas.

Christmas is about being together with family. There is no need to bring Jesus into it considering December 25th is not even his birthday. People in India, Japan, Korea, and other countries around the world celebrate Christmas although the majority of their populations are not Christian. What does this tell you? You don't have to be a Christian to celebrate Christmas.
Happy Holidays.

celebrate it as a holiday and a time for family and all that like everyone else, just that atheist stay out of church coz it seems a bit pointless praying when ur an atheist.
besides most atheist accept jesus as a real person and a major religious figure, but we don't believe he was a son of a god, just another mere mortal.
but first, what makes u so sure jesus was born on the 25th of dec?
no special december ritual.

They celebrate it like anybody else. What do you think Wal-Mart gets out of Christmas? They hope for lots of people to throw away their money on materialist garbage, they don't care about the Birth of Jesus.

They go to the movies, or visit with family. I have a friend that doesn't celebrate Christmas and she said they just take advantage of the time off to relax and hang out.

We still exchange gifts just for the hell of it since everyone around of still celebrates it. I don't believe in a spiritual god or the bible but gift giving is good. I don't have children yet but when I have some, I will raise them not to believe in god either but I will still give them gifts. I don't want them to feel left out at school.

What do you do in the Month of March? Named for the pagan God Mars or August? Named for the deified emperor Augustus? Or on Wednesday? Wodins day? Thursdays? Thors day?
If this is such a big issue for you start lobbying the goverment to change the names of the months to the names of the disiples!
Today could be say the 23 of Judas or your birthday could be say the 11th of doubting Thomas!
How cool would that be!!

I do the same things that I would be doing if it was any other day. My kids spend Christmas with their dad, who observes the holiday, and when they get back we celebrate New Year's and give them gifts.

I get up and exchange gifts as most of my family is not atheist. Some (my brother included) celebrate Yule on the winter solstice.
