Hard for mothers to realize that someone else can fill the needs of their son.
One day you may well understand how she now feels!

Keep doing your best and the truth will show itself.

Your husband is fortunate to have two people who care so much for him - perhaps you should remind him of this from time to time!

It all depends on the people involved.

MANY mother in laws are as nice as can be.

Try to talk to her and tell her that you want to know how to get along better. Most women will respond to kindness and good communication. If not, she may have her own problems and is just rude. Is she that way to others?

Don't put us all in one group.

Hey!
It could be several reasons why. One is that your mother-in-laws is either too over protected of her child because of what she herself endured in life. Also, if she is depended on her child too much, well she would want some reassurance that she won't be left alone in life. Another, unfortunate event she might want the hardship she experienced, in her childs life as well and only you would know by really paying attention to how she treats her child. Try not to go to the house too much and when you do make it short visits. This way your presence would be more appreciated.

I am a mother-in-law.

I am not evil.

Well, I am not evil if everything goes my way. LOL

Just kidding of course. Some mother in laws just have to be in control--all the time. When I was married I had the most wonderful mother in law in the world. I didn't much like her son--but she was fantastic.

Because they are devil re-incarnates out to make every ones life a living hell. The more they make it like that the stronger they get. Make sure you make the sign of the cross or have one on hand when she gets a little too out of control. And don't be afraid when she hisses and slinks away into the darkness. This is completely normal and should be expected.

My mother-in-law is evil because she can't believe her son had the nerve to leave home and get married. A lot of mothers are like this, and it's unfortunate and disgraceful. All it does is divide families, and for what? Does she really think he will divorce me so he can move in with her until death do they part? Gross! And crazy! I feel for you. Obviously.

In my first marriage my mother in law was horriable to the point of taking my sons picture around with someone elses picture stating that it couldn't be her grandma.
Then my mother in law now is a sweet heart, yes I did have to tell her what was up once, when she infomed me that I need to leave her sons house. Now we are best friends

thats a good question, its because of alot of things, jealousy, problems letting go, or they just dont have any common courtesy towards anyone, I am not sure of your situation, but the best thing you could do is just stop trying and just live your life with your husband/fiance because that is the only way that they will get the hint that their words wont mean anything to you, set boundaries early so that you wont end up in a HUGE confrontation where you and your inlaw(s) bump heads, you need to its up to your husband to get this message to your inlaws not you, tell him that he needs to let his parents know that you are important to him, and that any disprespect towards you is disrespect towards him. Good luck

I'm a mother in law and I'm not evil yours maynot be ready to give up her child to you. I didn't want to give my child up but he wanted to go with her, so I had to make the best of it.

The reason is simple. Your husband is her son. She sees you as competition. She has to share her son with you. She hopes that everything she does will not be outdone by you. She doesn't want your cooking to be better than hers. She doesn't want your tiles be shinier than hers. She's raised him for most of his life and she doesn't like handing him over to you. She misses him. She hates you for it. Try to laugh at it. ha ha. Consider it a compliment!
