I'm a college student and when I wake up, I am dead tired. I almost always get 8 hours of sleep too. What is a good way to get me up and running for the day (I fall asleep in class against my own will). Can take some sort of all natural pill in the morning? I want energy but I don't want to take energy drinks or sugar filled products. I want to keep healthy. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Before you go and start taking pills, find out why you are tired all the time? Why don't I have any energy? Could it be a health problem like Mono? (common in college students) Are you anemic? Depressed? I really would recommend you going to your health clinic to get some lab work done. If you are truly getting 8 hours asleep. Maybe you are are having sleep apnea and need to have a sleep study done. There could be many reasons why you feel the way you do. If you use energy drinks, coffee, caffeine pills etc.. remember they only work for a short time and you will crash eventually and may even feel worse. Plus, it is not good for your heart.

Exercise in the morning for about half an hour. Do some dancing or jogging or whatever you find fun to do. Make sure you get plenty of natural light, as sunlight tells your brain it's daylight and releases chemicals. Unnatural light such as light globes confuses the brain.

Maybe 8 hours isn't enough for you, maybe you need 10 hours. Experiment with this, not everyone needs exactly 8 hours.

Eat a healthy breakfast. Exercise in the morning. Get extra sleep on some nights. Also, check with your doctor if this seems like something might be wrong -- it could be worth having him or her run some tests.

Yo, i'm also a student like you (senior nursing student) and just like in med school, bunch of work and beating those deadlines are a usual activity.

my suggestion is, try to exercise, fill in your schedule to have at least 3x a week of exercise (jogging (aerobics) and weght training)

exercise would boost your endorphin level causing you to be alert. without exercise, the opposite of it (serotonin) will inhibit your beng alert and thus would make you feel sleepy

hope that would help

Try some green tea. Buddhist monks drink this to stay awake during long meditations. It is stimulating but not as harsh as the caffeine you see in coffee.

Power naps generally help me...Also, you could try doing something physical in the morning.
