I have a Miniature Schnauzer who is just a shade over 4 months old. Up until today when I took him outside he has been going to the bathroom and been ready to come in soon after that. Well today when I take him outside to go to the bathroom all that he wants to do is run around the yard and play. He has not exhibited this behavior until now. What can I do to get him to go to the bathroom while he is outside? I have gone out with him 3 times so far and all he has wanted to do is play.

He is just a pup that finally feels confident in his footing. He just realized.Hey, I can run and play and jump. Wow, this is FUN !! Don't worry he will grow up soon enough. Enjoy and laugh. You could always play too.

When you take him out you need to PRAISE him when he goes potty. Use a command word like, "do your job", "go wee", then "good boy as he does 1 or 2.
I did this with my dogs and now when I say "do your job" they sit or raise their leg even if they don't have to go.
Positive re-enforcement and repetition is the key. You also have to be in charge. If all he does is play...put him on the leash and wait with him in a spot he frequents till he goes. He has to know YOU decide when he plays and when he goes. You're are either the Alpha male or the *itch.

I'm guessing that all of the sites that guide you through the process of crate/potty training will recommend that you ignore the dog completely when he does this. Tough when you have a super-active pup like this! But, just make like a tree and (well, don't leave, but - ) stant totally still. He will give up eventually, and do his business - and THEN you can start the fun parade!!!

A lot of dogs need to run around and "play" to get their system moving around to "go". Especially for "number two". My Boston Terrier has to run around a little before he goes. After he's done, he's ready to come in. Good luck!

He is just being a puppy. I took my 5 month old Bichonpoo out today and it was like the traveling circus. She was chasing leaves, running in circles, jumping on me. No interest in why we were out there, no remembrance of her loose leash training - just being a big baby. He will have days like this, fewer as he matures.

Do you not take him out to play much? If you don't let him play outside then when you take him he'll go nuts. I like play more than I do potty. Merry Christmas. Jesus saves! WOOT!

maybe whenever you want to take him out he doesnt want to go because he's excited ur with him and wants to play..... if hasnt gone for one day its ok, but if he doesnt fo for around at the most 3 days take him to the vet or if u have a fenced in area or invisible fence let him roam around until he finds his place to go

Quite simply, ignore the dog when you go outside, don't look at it, don't interact with it.
