Hi MARY DOES MARYLAND. Satan was (is) an angel. God teaches about angels in Hebrews 1:13-14:
"But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of Salvation?"
Angels (including Lucifer) were created to be servants, not to rule. We do know that all of the angels were created perfect, to be ministering spirits. We do not understand how these perfect angels would rebel against God, although we read in Isaiah 14:12 about the fall of Lucifer (who is Satan):
“ How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations!"
You can read Isaiah 14:12-21 to get a better understanding of what awaits Satan.
The Bible doesn't tell us why Satan wanted to leave his estate in Heaven. But we know that when he did rebel, a legion of angels followed in rebellion. Those angels who were faithful at the start have remained faithful, and those angels who rebelled, still remain in rebellion.

I think he/she/it is a myth. It's perplexing to comprehend an all powerful & loving god who is in competition with the devil. Who created the devil, dare I ask? Unfortunately, the more I get into this category, the more convinced I am that the Christain God must be some kind of sadist. & no, I don't want to be called a "sinner" & then told the person loves me & just doesn't want me to go to hell. (Another myth.) "Good" & "bad" are in US; perhaps it's comforting to think the devil is to blame, & that god will save us, & so be it. I do tire, awfully, of pages of biblical verse.

If by the Devil you mean satin, He is always referred to as a he. and he is not man or beast but a angelic creation of God cast down to earth for his rebellion and competitive nature against God.
With him also was cast one third of the angelic host of heaven. These are his demons.

a deceitful, inticing "thing" that creeps into your mind, or sits on your shoulder opposite of the angel...whatever you want to think. all i know is that he is powerful and is easier to believe than God sometimes...just the devil will let you burn in hell for eternity, or God will let you live in a mansion He prepared for you for eternity. which do you choose?
