Keep reading. Like any good book, the plot advances as you go along. As you near the end, you will find that a Man named Jesus fulfilled the requirements that a child honor his parent by being obedient to His Father even to the point of dying on the cross (see Phil 2:5-11) to save others and then "rested" from that work on the Sabbath day (see Luke 23:53-56). After that He rose from the dead.

Once those laws had been obeyed by Him, the penalty for them no longer exist. (See the book of Hebrews). This is one of the central themes of the Bible.

When you read all of the book, then you can answer all the questions.

The punishments imposed in the Old Testament are not valid any longer, and some of them were not even divinely written. For intance the laws about how to keep the Sabbath holy were all traditional, not divine. God simply said "Keep the day holy, do no work on it" but people had to definite what "Holy" and "Work" meant, and they ultimately said you cant do ANYTHING on the Sabbath, but Jesus said "it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath".

The punishments imposed in the Old Testament are not valid because the Law was never meant to save or redeem mankind. The Law was only meant to supervise us until the Messiah could come that we may be saved through him.

The covenant God established with Abraham was set up a whole four hundred years before the Law was ever established, thus if we were meant to be saved through the Law, certainly it would have been imposed from the very beginning, and certainly we would have no reason to need Christ. So the Bible remains consistent.

"At that time Jesus walked through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples became hungry and began picking heads of grain to eat.

When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, "Look! Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!"

But he said to them, "Haven't you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? How is it that he went into the house of God and ate the Bread of the Presence, which was not lawful for him and his companions to eat but was reserved for the priests? Or haven't you read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple violate the Sabbath and yet are innocent?

But I tell you, something greater than the temple is here! If you had known what 'I want mercy and not sacrifice' means, you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." (Matthew 12:1-8)

Look at case laws in exodus and you will find provisions for acts of necessity.

I believe in Matthew it reads
11 And He said to them, "What man shall there be among you, who shall have one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it, and lift it out? 12 "Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

The Law was given to the Jews, not to Gentiles.
"Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or new moon or SABBATH DAY - things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ" (Colossians 2:16,17)

If you want to follow the Law, what about sacrificing animals at the Temple? If you want to keep the Law then keep the whole Law - all 600+ commandments

Yeah, like God had a stenographer. Ok, if you read on you'll find in the New Testament Romans 14:5-6 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it...

The "putting to death" things I believe are all Mosaic law (Moses), not commandments.

You really need to get an education, kid. Clearly you have a bible and have not read it. You're taking one or two verses and using them to smear all faith. How about you read it, slowly and carefully, and with an open mind, and then come back and ask real questions.

To answer your question, Jesus fulfilled the law, so we are no longer bound by the Jewish laws of the old testament.

Both old testament, not much reading for you in the new testament huh? The part where Jesus paid the penalty for sin. Is it still wrong? Of course, but your point is mute without further investigation of why Jesus even came in the first place. Being that no one is perfect and never will be, He took our place and paid the price of death for us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

But Christ healed sick people on the day of Sabbath. That is the new meaning of God's love.
The Samaritan who loves all mankind is more advanced in love than people who confine themselves within the barriers of labels.
