I would probably hit them. That's not right and a 2 year old has no idea what they did to deserve that in the first place anyone that snaps a child on the lips with a rubber band needs to get help and be reported to the cops and be charged with child abuse. I would tell that person to stay away from my child. I'm sorry that happened to your child please don't let anyone do that again. Tell that person to grow up and respect kids and not harm them. I feel that people like that don't deserve to have children if they are going to abuse them.

Assuming it was another child about the same age, I would have my 2-yr-old say in a clear (may need to take a breath first) firm voice "That hurt me!" and then comfort my child, with my back mostly to the other child, saying "Do you see how Alex is crying? That hurt. It's not okay to hurt other people." I'd take the rubber band away, saying "If you can't be safe with this, you need to play with something else." And leave it at that. Kids don't really get that other people have feelings and they don't have the experience adults do to understand what hurts and what doesn't. They are learning and clear, simple sentences are the best way to teach. Furthermore, many of them do not have the coordination to control a rubber band. I would keep rubber bands away from toddlers, period.

It's also equally, if not more, important to teach the child who was hurt to express his/her feelings clearly to the person who hurt him/her.

If it was an adult, I would cut that person out of my life completely.

Who did it? A kid? A parent of the child? As long as it was on purpose and it wasn't a minor I would file charges for abuse and probably torture them in some way. Like say my friend was over and just thought it would be funny to take a rubber band and snap my daughters lip with it, I would call the police, file abuse charges and then I would make them very miserable for a very long time. I would also make sure that they were never to see that child again.

How old was the person who did this? Was it a relative or family friend? Was it a perfect stranger? If it was a child who did this, I would have a serious word with his or her parent(s). If this was an adult relative or family friend, I would also have a serious word with them and explain to them that doing that is absolutely unacceptable and if it happens again, you will file a lawsuit. If it was a perfect stranger, I'd take them to court immediately. No child deserves to be snapped on the mouth with a rubber band, ESPECIALLY a 2-year-old who is still learning how to behave and interact with others. I don't care what your 2-year-old did or didn't do, it is unacceptable and I wouldn't stand for it.

Was this an accident or on purpose? Was it a child or an adult? If it was a child and accidental an apology is in order, an adult should know better than to be around a child with a rubber band, especially if all they are doing with it is playing. If a child did it on purpose then they have the same done to them and a time out or some form of discipline where they are taught that what they have done is wrong. If an adult did that to my child on purpose I would only have one word to say to them, RUN.

Its kind of hard to do that by accident but lets face it accidents happen and if it was an accident Im sure there were true appologies. Since you dont give any details about your question like if it was by accident I will suppose it was not an accident which is where my reaction changes completely and I would make sure that the person who did it felt equal pain in a sensitive area because that really has to hurt! I am not violent by nature but when someone hurts a child or animal on purpous they deserve what is coming to them..maybe I wouldnt do it my self but Im sure my husband would have lots of fun snapping the person across the mouth.

There are many circumstances - was the person in charge of your child? If it was a Daycare provider, I'd report them and pull my child ASAP.

Regardless, if it were an older child or adult, I would tell them under no certain terms were they ever to be in the same room as my child. You can choose ever again, or until the child is older, your choice.

Is the person evil or just stupid? I may consider even consider charges if it was done as a form of punishment or attack rather than a thoughtless and stupid "joke".

If it was a younger child, I'd tell the parents and make sure that they were always WELL surpervised when together.

Well that is mean. It depends on how old the person is. If it were a grown up then it depends on why they did it. If it were a teenager then Id yell at them and smack them across the face and tell there parents im not being violent or anything or a little if it was a 3,4 or 5 year old then it depends on if it was an acsadent or if they were trying to do somthing funny.
