I recently just broke up with a girl in the same situation. She liked me for so long and I just didn't feel the same back (no spark) but a couple years passed and we always got along well, everyone kept telling me how gorgeous she was and what am i doing?!? so i kind of went with it, but it was short lived for that very reason, I didn't have butterflys in my stomach when i saw her.
Check his stomach for butterflys or other flying creatures next time you see him.
